FAQ

1. How do I RSVP?

Please follow the link to this Google form to RSVP: http://goo.gl/forms/5qgsWNoV0F

2. What if I can only attend one session - how will I drop off my hat?

Please email KNTbaltimore@gmail.com to coordinate. You can also arrange to mail your hat in.

3. What if I am a newbie, and I can’t attend the second session?

We will work with you to make sure you get a completed hat. This might require some self-study via some YouTube videos we recommend! We may also hold extra sessions(TBD).

4. I am an experienced knitter, and I would like to bring my own yarn. What would you prefer?

Based on some research of other groups that have done similar work, it seems men have preferred dark, solid hats with plain patterns. More creative colors and patterns are well-received by women and adolescents. However, quantity of hats over fancy designs is encouraged in order to spread the warmth to as many people as possible!

5. I have never knitted before. What should I bring?

A set of 12” circular needles (No. 10.5 or 11) and 1 ball of yarn will be provided to you. The needles are for you to keep (and to hopefully make more hats and other projects with!). The recommended donation is $5 (cash only).

6. Can I bring a friend to just watch and keep me company?

Friends are definitely welcome to drop by or to hang out in Red Emma’s main seating area. However, there are space limitations in the Free School. At this time, we ask to fill the seats with knitters only! If  there are available seats, we will send out an email closer to the event dates to let you know about bringing friends.

7. Can I eat/drink/snack while I knit?

Of course! Red Emma’s offers a variety of delicious beverages, desserts, and vegetarian snacks/meals. There are plenty of vegan options as well.

8. Is there parking in the area?

Since the events are on Sunday, the metered spots are free in the Station North area. Please double-check all meters and signs. Otherwise, it is easy to reach via walking, biking, local university shuttles (if applicable), and the Charm City Circulator (7 minute walk from Penn Station).

9. Who will the hats be donated to?

A neighbor of your choosing! We encourage you to donate directly and safely to someone in need in your neighborhood. Otherwise, we can donate the hat for you to someone locally in Baltimore City or to a local organization devoted to supporting individuals living in homelessness.

10. Is there any other way I can contribute?

Yes! We are looking for monetary support to buy yarn and subsidize the cost of the knitting needles. Click HERE

11. Do you only knit or accept hats?

Nope! Happily accepting any warm articles, such as hats, gloves/mittens (big need here!), scarves. There will be future events to knit mittens and scarves as well.
